Kurtis, haling from Bondi and Byron and all points east coast Australia, has been slowly but surely building a reputation over the last few years, not only as a dynamic and exciting performer but as a polished singer songwriter.
After high school Kurtis Attended Uni in NSW northern rivers region and completed a BA in contemporary music composition. Following his graduation in 1995 he spent the subsequent few years doing what all aspiring Aussie musicians do and paid his dues working and playing across the country with a variety of acts and in all kinds of venues.
After settling in Byron Bay he set about establishing a unique identity and sound. Surrounding himself with a variety of creative collaborators, the new band called simply Kurtis, and featuring some of the areas finest young players, began establishing a new sound and a reputation amongst loyal audiences as a lethally grooving dance outfit. With core members Sam Shine (guitar), Brook Rees (bass) and producer/MD Murray Burns the collective brains trust set about demoing up the flood of new material.
Deciding that their live performances were their strength the Kurtis collective recorded a live album as their debut release, launching Foundations in late 2004 and touring the east coast extensively.
Now building on that solid foundation and growing national profile Kurits is set to launch a new studio produced single on September the 1st. Better than the real thing is an infectiously funky dance track that continues the evolution of the Kurtis signature funk sound and now Kurtis has increased the collective circle to include some of Australias and the worlds best up and coming producer/Djays. The new single will include no less than four remixes of the track a version to suit all moods, environments and dance tastes.
